FAQ
Why should I get a mentor?
Mentors help you by making:
-
lesson planning easier (they have curriculum to share, know what curriculum pieces work and flow well together, how to accommodate and differentiate for different needs)
-
classroom management more manageable (they can share systems that work and tricks for different circumstances)
-
grading more efficient (they know what works for your content)
Mentors also reduce feelings of isolation, overwhelm, stress, and burnout! Research also backs this up, showing that mentorship significantly supports teacher retention (IES 2015*).
My school assigns me a mentor or evaluator. Isn't that good enough?
Due to attrition, underfunding, or location, many organizations are unable to provide teachers with mentors who have the experience, time, and desire to mentor (i.e who are not just voluntold to do it or who are just following a rubric).
Mentor Orchard has mentors who are available when you need them and allows you to access expert teachers from across the nation that know your content well.

What is an individual mentoring session like?
